  • Japanese and Chinese troops clashed at Gaojialing in the Hubei-Hunan border region in China; the Japanese used chemical weapons during this engagement. Hawaii Japan Pacific Ocean
  • Submarine USS Saury attacked a convoy of four cargo ships and three tankers off Shanghai, China. Japanese army cargo ship Takamisan Maru (1,992 tons) was sunk and also a tanker of greater size.
