- Radar jamming devices began operations in eastern England, United Kingdom. ww2dbase [CPC]
- Captain Lord Charles Lyell was killed in Tunisia whilst knocking out a 88mm gun position and two machine gun posts. He was posthumously awarded the Victoria Cross. ww2dbase [AC]
- USS Scorpion fired six torpedoes at a Japanese convoy, sinking the merchant ship Yuzan Maru with four hits; she was depth charged by an escorting destroying and suffered minor damage. ww2dbase [Scorpion | CPC]
- Admiral Dönitz issued a new order to his submarine commanders, instructing that they were to cross the Bay of Biscay submerged during the night and to resurface during the day only long enough to recharge their batteries. - The 17,526-ton Japanese troop carrier Kamakura Maru departed Manila, Philippines with 2,500 oil production workers and army medical personnel, heavy vehicles, and ammunition on board, bound for Balikpapan, Borneo, Dutch East Indies. ww2dbase [Manila | HM]
- German submarine U-518 arrived at Lorient, France and disembarked three prisoners captured from Swedish motor merchant Industria, which U-518 had sunk on 25 Mar 1943. The prisoners were later repatriated by aircraft to Sweden. ww2dbase [Lorient, Bretagne | HM]
