» 30 Oct 1944: Squadron Leader Bill Gill of 124 squadron RAF shot down a Heinkel bomber (A1+BM0 of 4/KG53) in which Fe Theodor Warwas and his crew were killed. Gill claimed another as a probable kill but it was later entered as damaged. Gill reported that after his ammunition ran out he followed the enemy aircraft into cloud and noticed that the Heinkel aircraft's port engine had stopped and that there was no fire from the gunner.

» 11 May 1984: Maynard Smith passed away in St. Petersburg, Florida, United States.

» 2 Mar 1945: The 3,204-ton Norwegian freighter Novasli had arrived in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, United States from England, United Kingdom on 17 Jan 1945, where she had taken on board 1,123 standards of lumber, before leaving for Boston and Halifax on 4 Feb 1945, arriving at Halifax on 13 Feb. She left Halifax again on 16 Feb for Swansea Bay and London in Convoy SC 167, station 31. The ship reached St. Georges Channel on 2 Mar and was just off Milford Haven when she was torpedoed in the stern by German submarine U-1302 (Kapitänleutnant Wolfgang Herwartz). The rudder and propeller were blown away, and she had a crack behind midships on both sides from the gunwale and as far down as they could see, with an opening of about 1-foot wide from the rail and down, and water gushed into the engine room. Three lifeboats were sent away from the ship while the captain, the first mate, the radio operator, steward and mess boy remained on board, and that afternoon she was taken in tow. However, the water kept rising in and the aft section sank deeper, until the sea was washing over the midships deck when they left the ship. The survivors were picked up by the trawler HMS Helier II (FY-312), which shelled, and depth charged the wreck, and by midnight she was gone. Novasli's crew were landed in Milford Haven.

» 20 Apr 1942: American minesweeper USS Owl, which had been on station near the damaged neutral Argentinian motor tanker Victoria 200 kilometers east of Hampton Roads, Virginia, United States since 18 Apr 1942, was relieved by the Fleet tug USS Sagamore (AT 20).

» 18 Apr 1945: The column of prisoners of war that SS-Feldgendarmerie personnel forced out of Marlag und Milag Nord prisoners of war camp in Westertimke, Germany on 2 Apr 1945 crossed the River Elbe near Hamburg, Germany.

» 20 Oct 1944: A Heinkel III (5K+BT) flown by German Air Force pilot Unteroffizier Albert Fleichmann failed to return to base; later it was found that the aircraft had come down at Cloppenburg near Oldenbrg, Germany with the loss of all the crew.

Are any details or photographs available of the Armoured Guards Division liberation of Marlag-Milag on 27 April 1945?
