" The heavy cruiser was sunk by a Japanese torpedo ." Wrong~! The USS Indianapolis was sunk with six torpedos ... not 'a' torpedo. And she went down in seven minutes.

Actually, the I-58 did fire six torpedoes but only two struck the ship. Communications aboard ship were immediately severed so word could not be passed to the engine room to reduce speed. The result was the gaping holes near the bow scooped up massive amounts of water that, indeed, caused the ship to capsize and sink in a very few minutes.

Wish there was a way to comment under other comments, to Michael Annis, I think we’re related. My grandfather, Campbell Arthur Griffin Jr., is James’ cousin if I’m reading my family tree correctly.
