Several things seen in the portrait indicate the is a posthumous concept for Isoroku Yamamoto. He is painted wearing the uniform of a Japanese Marshal Admiral, a rank he was granted after his death. He is wearing the star for the Order of the Chrysanthemum which was also awarded posthumously (below his medals and next to his red sash). The sash probably also represents the Order of the Chrysanthemum but the edges should be dark blue. Also seen are the stars for the Order of the Rising Sun (nearest his shoulder), the Order of the Sacred Treasure (nearest his elbow), and apparently two stars for the Order of the Golden Kite (on either side of the sash). Not depicted are either of the awards bestowed by Nazi Germany.
