• At at a meeting between the Japanese cabinet and the Allied General Headquarters in Tokyo, Japan, Douglas MacArthur ordered the Japanese government to reconsider the Emperor's status, to release political prisoners, to disband the Special Police, and to repeal repressive laws. At the end of the meeting, Fumimaro Konoe asked MacArthur if the American general had thoughts on the the "constitution" (ie. the make-up) of the new Japanese government under Allied occupation.
