- The French 1st Corps captured the city of Belfort in the Vosges region, but the Germans clung so tenaciously to defences beyond the city that it would not be until 25 November 1944 that the French advance could be resumed. ww2dbase [Advance to the Rhine | Belfort, Franche-Comté | AC]
