ww2dbaseThe 10.5 cm Leichtgeschütz 40 recoilless guns, built by the firm Krupp, were said to be inspired by competitor firm Rheinmetall's 7.5 cm LG 40, which were used to effectiveness during the Battle of Crete in 1941, but left much to be desired. Krupp's design was basically enlarged and upgraded version of the 7.5-cm predecessors, but with several key improvements such as the capability to be broken down to five individual parts for para-drop operations, and the sharing of shells with the 10.5 cm leFH 18 light howitzers. Production of the design lasted from 1942 until 1944. Most of the 10.5 cm LG 40 guns, together with the similar 10.5 cm LG 42 guns built by Rheinmetall, were deployed to independent light artillery gun battalions that fought with the 20th Mountain Army in Finland and Army Group Center in Russia.Source: Wikipedia. ww2dbase
