ww2dbaseThe Type 44 bolt-action cavalry rifles, at times referred to as cavalry carbines, entered production in 1911 and entered service with the Japanese Army in 1912, replacing the earlier Arisaka Type 38 cavalry rifles. Nariakira Arisaka was the chief designer of these weapons. Rather unique with the design was the inclusion of a two-piece cleaning rods that were stored in the hollow stock of each weapon, each accessed via a rotating door. Production ended in 1942 after about 91,900 examples were made.Source: Wikipedia ww2dbase
