ww2dbaseThe BL 15-inch Mark I guns, developed in 1912 by enlarging the BL 13.5-inch Mark V design, were the guns of this caliber for the British. 186 guns were built between 1912 and 1918, and they were at times removed from ships, refurbished, and reinstalled either on other ships or ashore. They found active service aboard battleships and battlecruisers between 1915 and 1946, including HMS Queen Elizabeth, HMS Renown, and others which would see service during WW2. In the 1920s, Spain purchased four of these guns in single turrets for mounting for coastal defense in the region of Cartagena on the country's Mediterranean coast. In the 1930s, five of them were mounted ashore in Singapore at Johore battery and Buona Vista Battery for coastal defense duty. In the 1940s, two of them, nicknamed "Clem" and "Jane", were mounted ashore near Wanstone Farm in Kent in southern England, United Kingdom in a similar role. The last of BL 15-inch Mark I guns was retired in 1959.Source: Wikipedia ww2dbase
