ww2dbaseUpon capturing a Chinese Army Bofors M29 75-millimeter anti-aircraft gun in 1927, the Japanese Army tested it and found it to be superior to the Type 88 anti-aircraft guns that it had employed at that time. Reverse engineering was completed in 1934, thus the Type 4 anti-aircraft gun design was born, named for the year 1934, which was the year 2604 in the Japanese imperial calendar. The Type 4 anti-aircraft guns had an effective ceiling of 10,050 meters and a maximum ceiling of 17,000 meters. The design did not go into production, however, until war demanded it. 70 units were built by the end of the war in 1945, many of which fired in anger against American aircraft raiding the Japanese home islands.Source: Wikipedia ww2dbase
