War in Pacific Skies, though trying to serve also as a primer of the Pacific War, was a collection of artwork by Jack Fellows, and by all means, it was a stunning collection. While the text portion lacked depth, the paintings done by Fellows were handsome. Most of the artwork featured American aircraft (most of the Japanese aircraft seen in the paintings were aflame or in cross hairs), with the models covering everything from fighters to bombers to flying boats. My personal favorites were the shark-mouthed Flying Tigers P-40 fighters, whose beautiful lines were captured expertly by the artiest. Although the Coopers' history left much to be desired, they supplemented the book with many rare photographs, which made the book even more visual. War in Pacific Skies was not designed to be a book for military history enthusiasts, but for those aviation buffs and military art collectors, this book might just be a gem.
