ww2dbaseTomokazu Kasai was born as the youngest child of a farmer in Sasayama, Hyogo Prefecture, Japan, in Mar 1926. He enrolled in basic flight school in Apr 1942 and would graduate in the following year. In early Nov 1943, he was assigned to a training squadron, but the demands of war would cut his training, normally lasting about six months, to under one month. He was assigned to a front line unit flying A6M Zero fighters. Between late Feb and mid-Mar 1944, his unit was transferred to Guam, Mariana Islands. He saw combat in the defense of Mariana Islands and Philippine Islands. In Dec 1944, he was transferred to a unit under the overall command of Minoru Genda, flying N1K Shiden Kai aircraft. He served the final months of the war from the airfield at Kanoya, Kagoshima, Japan. When the Pacific War ended in Aug 1945, his score stood at 10 kills. After the war, he moved to Osaka, Japan.
