ww2dbaseTakahisa Amagai was a pilot in the Japanese Navy with 2,500 hours of flight experience. At the start of the Pacific War, he served abroad carrier Hiryu as an air officer during the Pearl Harbor attack in Dec 1941. In Jun 1942, he served a similar role aboard carrier Kaga during the Battle of Midway. After the loss of Kaga in the latter battle, he served as a member of the Naval Air Service Headquarters Staff in Tokyo where he was in charge of aircraft carrier flight deck installations. From May 1944 until the end of the war he served as Commanding Officer of the 634th Air Group. After the war, Amagai was interrogated by Captain C. Shands of the United States Navy in Tokyo on 6 Oct 1945 and provided some insights to the Americans on how the Japanese conducted the Midway attack, though he mistakenly provided incorrect information by calling the simultaneous Aleutians operation a "feint".
