WW2-era Aircraft Carrier Possibly Located

Graf Zeppelin, Germany's only attempt at building an aircraft carrier during WW2, was believed to have been scuttled at the end of WW2, but the exact whereabouts of the ship had been unknown. On 28 Jul 2006, however, the Polish navy reported that it was almost certain that a wreck discovered in the Baltic Sea of Wladyslawowo is the Graf Zeppelin. At this point, because of the wreck's immense size, recovering is said to be impossible. For more details, please see the BBC website.

B-24J of the 38th Bomb Squadron “The Chambermaid” managed to return to Saipan in the Mariana Islands after being heavily damaged over Iwo Jima 11 Sep 1944. All crewmembers survived but all received the Purple Heart.
