Chester Nez's Passing
While all forces that had taken part in WW2 employed one kind of code or another in order to shield information from opposing sides, the Navajo code talkers in the service of the United States Marine Corps were among the more unique, for that they created a system using code words spoken in their native tongue. Chester Nez, one of the original small group of men who devised the code, passed away in Albuquerque, New Mexico, United States on 4 Jun 2014; he was the last of the surviving original member. President Ben Shelly of the Navajo Nation, a semi-autonomous governing body in the United States, ordered flags to be flown at half mast in Nez's honor.
