During July 1943 practice flights for the low level Ploesti raid were conducted against a mock-up target in the Libyan desert, followed by a full-scale dress rehearsal involving 175 Liberators. This well-known photograph was likely to have been taken during the rehearsal.

Dad was at Shipham, 44th bomb group, 67th Sqd. Flew on practice. Flew to Benia-Main, Libya, possibly was on Ploestii raid.At least that what it says on Discharge record. Suspect picture could easily be a the edge of Ploesti. Aircraft entering or leaving. Dad described flying over the practice Ploesti target in desert. Wouldn't say much more - PTSD.

My Father, 2Lt. Robert B. Fisk, was in the 66th Sq. at Shipdham starting Sept. 1944, a year after Tidal Wave. He was on Howard Hinshaw's crew.
When I asked Dad about Tidal Wave, he quickly and FIRMLY shut me down, which was NOT like him.
I believe that something bothered him about not being there.
He completed 30 missions with Lt. Hinshaw, being shot down twice (almost-under-control crash landings on the continent).

My great uncle, John Dee aged 24, was on the Exterminator. It and Let Er Rip allegedly collided midair per my grandfather Donald Dee's research on the subject. This was over Ploesti.

Citação Famosa da 2ª GM
"You ask, what is our aim? I can answer in one word. It is victory. Victory at all costs. Victory in spite of all terrors. Victory, however long and hard the road may be, for without victory there is no survival."Winston Churchill

My father was awarded the purple heart for flying this mission as a gun ball turret runner. I would be happy to send you his picture receiving the purple heart.
