P-38 #100, Putt Putt Maru, belonged to Headquarters Squadron and was flown by my Dad's Commanding Officer of the 475th Fighter Group Colonel Charles MacDonald. Col. MacDonald was the 3rd highest ranking Ace in the Pacific with 27 victories. There were 5 different P-38's that the Colonel flew named Putt Putt Maru. I believe this might be an early version since it has only 10 kill markings. Another fact about Col. MacDonald was that he was assigned to Wheeler Field Hawaii when the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor.
P-38 #140 belonged to 432nd Fighter Squadron, 475th Fighter Group and was flown by 5 different pilots. There were several P-38's that carried #140 in the 432nd FS.
My Dad was a Crew Chief and mechanic in the 433rd Fighter Squadron, 475th Fighter Group. He was with them from their activation at Amberley Field Australia May 1943 until March 1944.
