WHAT WAS THE FATE OF THESE THREE SS-OFFICERS:
Fritz Witt Born May 25, 1908 - Died June 14, 1944 KIA, Witt's divisional command post was hit by naval gunfire, hit in the face and killed by shrapnel. Joined the NSDAP Dec. 12, 1931
Max Wunsche Born April 20, 1916 - Died 1995 at age 80, Munich, Germany. Commander of the 12th SS
taken POW in 1944 spent two years POW camp in Scotland. Released 1948 and returned to the Fatherland, Joined the SS in 1935 and was a member of the Nazi Party.
Max Wunsche was once posted as an adjutant to Adolf Hitler from 1938 to 1940.
Kurt "Panzer" Meyer Born Dec. 23, 1910 - Died Dec. 23, 1961. Joined the Leibstandarte SS in 1934, later captured Sept. 6, 1944 by Belgium partisans, later turned over to US Forces as POW.
Meyer was seriously wounded and in need of medical attention. Later sent to POW camp in England. After the war, returned to Germany in winter of 1945 and tried under a military court, for war crimes, and sentenced to death but changed to life imprisonment. Released in 1951 and died at age 50 years old.
