The tail marking on the Hellcat indicate VF-5 from USS Yorktown (Essex-class) and the red border around the National Insignia indicates pre 14-Sep-1943. These two markings combined mean the plane is marked to represent a fighter that participated in the Marcus Island Raid of 31-Aug-1943.
