This photos was taken in Bernières sur Mer. Famous Canada house at the back. 100 % sure. I live next to it.

Your correct photo was taken on June 6, 1944 at Juno Beach. I'm glad to see other comment here at ww2db. Can you identify any more photos of the Normandy area. Spent five days in France 1967 had a wonderful time...even crossed the English Channel by ferry.

CAPTURED GERMAN POWs:

Dank-Gott war lebendig - Thank God were alive

The officer on the left, is wearing the M36 field tunic w/dark green collar with pleats on pockets enlisted men and junior NCOs are wearing the M43 tunic without pleats, M43 field caps and M38 side caps.
The officer or senior NCO behind the Canadian guard is wearing the M40 greatcoat and M38 peak cap looks like he took out the spring in the crown giving it a soft floppy look. Looks like he's also been issued the short ankle boots worn w/gaiters.
Rest of the troops are still wearing jackboots, this is surprising this late in the war, as new troops were issued short ankle boots w/gaiters.

CANADIAN TROOPER:

The POW guard has been issued the Canadian style battle dress with closed collar and battle dress trousers, ammo pouch attached to the shoulder webbing.
He's wearing the older style Mk.II helmet, some helmets had a netting cover for applying camouflage, issued short boots w/canvas gaiters wrapped around top of the boots. Looks like he's armed w/the No.4 Mk.I SMLE Lee-Enfield(10)round bolt-action rifle and No.4 spike bayonet...

Ref. Photo Identification Code PA-114493
This photo was NOT taken in Courselles but in Bernières-sur-mer. The house is easy to identified on dozens of differnet pictures on the web. The legend on your web site shoud be corrected accordingly. I also intend to contact the National Archive Canada for correction as this mistake is all over the web. Finally, see the comment nb. 2 from Nathalie below the photo. I have been Lucky enoughto go inside that house in the backgrtound on the photo. Claude Vallee
