A great photograph of a Short Sunderland V. Flying Boat. After the war, the Sunderland force was run down, and by June 1948, only No. 201 Squadron, Aircraft (NS Z) photograph above. And two other squadrons were available for operations, No.230, and No.235. During the Berlin Airlift between June and December their aircraft carried 4,800 tons of freight from Hamburg to Berlin's Havel See. The last Sunderland unit operated until 1959.

The Royal New Zealand Air Force (RNZAF) were the last to operate the Sunderland anywhere in the world. These were sixteen refurbished Sunderland Mk.Vs delivered from RAF stock in 1953/54. They equipped two squadrons ( No,5 Sqn in Fiji and No.6 Sqn in Hobsonville, Auckland) being used for maritime patrol and anti-submarine warfare duties. Mercy and search and rescue missions were also flown on occasion, while passenger flights to the Chatham Islands, on charter to the Internal Affairs Department, were also undertaken, The final aircraft was retired in 1967.
