Mitsubishi A6M3,Model 32(Hamp/Zeke 32)found
abandoned on Munda. Aircraft code T2-157 was
built in December 1942 and was assigned to
the 204th Kokutai.
The Hamp has been outside for awhile the gray/green color, has fadded to a light gray, engine cowling color was a blue/black has fadded to a light blue. Aircraft was towed by truck and loaded on a barge shipped to Guadacanal for technical evaluation.
Munda airfield was captured by the Japanese in 1942, recaptured by US Forces in Aug.1943 after twelve days of fighting. The US later expanded Munda into a major base and repair facility. Aircraft to the Hamps right, is a
Mitsubishi G4M "Betty Bomber".
