This shows well the Mines Field facilities as they were by the end of the war. The large dark building at the lower right is the Los Angeles Airport terminal. The five original hangars line the flight line near the top of the photo. The North American Aviation aircraft factory is seen to the left of the hangars in the upper left (southeast) corner of the property. The Douglas Aircraft Company’s aircraft factory (which is actually in El Segundo) can be seen beyond the North American factory. The Interstate Aircraft and Engineering Corporation aircraft factory (also in El Segundo) is seen as the long, flat building in the upper center of the photograph. The runway extension crosses the old Arizona Avenue (now Sepulveda Blvd) at right and the Sepulveda detour road is barely visible. And residential encroachment is seen at the bottom. The square mile that had been Mines Field is now part of the air freight complex at the Los Angeles International Airport.
