The glass ampule in the center contains acid that will act as an electrolyte. The ampule sits on a flexible stand that will collapse under the strain of the shell being fired, thus smashing the ampule against a sharp point and shattering the glass. The rapid spinning of the shell will then force the acid outward and into the stacked plates surrounding the ampule. The plates are flat zinc washers coated on one side with carbon and when introduced to the electrolyte, they will become a wet cell battery discharging an electrical current that will power the remaining electronics within the fuze.
