Captain Fritzche was the commanding officer of the USS Samuel Chase and Captain Imlay was Deputy Commander of Samuel Chase’s Assault Group. This photo was probably taken while the ship was at Portland Harbor, Weymouth, England but before embarking the Army invasion troops from the 1st Infantry Division (the Big Red 1).
