The British photographic section made a point to record that it took Fujita five minutes to sign the document using Japanese characters. Standing beside Fujita is someone identified only as Mr. Makimura, former commissioner for Foreign Affairs and the first Japanese envoy to contact British Admiral Harcourt aboard the flagship HMS Indomitable. At back center is Navy Captain JAS Eccles, head of Military Administration; he was fluent in Japanese and was responsible for many of the surrender arrangements. Notice also that this is the same scene but from 180-degrees across the room as in Image http://ww2db.com/image.php?image_id=16765 and the photographer who took each photo can be seen in the other.
