SHORT BURSTS: WATCH YOUR AMMO
I made a mistake the F4U Corsair was armed with 6 x .50 caliber machine guns. the inboard guns had 400 rpg the outboard guns had 375rpg
this was due the design of the wing.
In my previous comment, I said 200rpg for the inboard guns, and 175rpg for the outboard guns
that is an error, my mistake.
Guess I need more sleep or double check my facts before I submit my comment. If I make an error I'll correct as soon as possible. Glad to clear this up...(rpg) rounds per gun

SHORT BURSTS: WATCH YOUR AMMO
Did you know the pilot of an F4U Corsair had
30 seconds of firing time, for all six .50 caliber machine guns, There were three .50 caliber machine guns in each wing. The two inboard ammo boxes in each wing, held 200 rounds per gun while the two outboard ammo box held 175 rounds in order to fit the shape of the wing.
The pilot fired in short bursts. Some pilots would turn off two guns to conserve ammo. Just in case they needed extra ammo to get home. File photo shows the three (.50) caliber starboard weapons
