From left to right are: Lieutenant Commander Charles Ingalls, Commanding Officer of Fighting Squadron 87; Grumman technical representative Ralph Clark; Commander Porter Maxwell, Commanding Officer of Fighting-Bombing Squadron 87; and Commander Everett L. Phadres, Commanding Officer of Air Group 87.
Ralph Clark presented Commander Maxwell with a check for $500 for the squadron’s welfare fund. As the 10,000th Hellcat rolled down the Grumman production line at Bethpage, New York, workers dropped change into a bucket hanging from its tail to be given to the squadron that received the plane.
