San Francisco had gone into Mare Island 2 months before to repair battle damage from November 13 1942, had shifted out of drydock on February 6, and on the 14th was moving out of Mare Island to a San Francisco pier when the pilot misjudged the current and rammed the dock damaging the bow. The picture was taken on February 15 as she headed back to Mare Island to fix that.
