The dedicated US late-war AA mounting was the quadruple 40mm Bofors; it was fitted in large numbers to virtually every major US vessel. It was a water-cooled power-driven mounting, the configuration being a twin; quads comprised pairs of twins in a common tub. Shell weight was about 2lb (0.9kg) and rate of fire has been measured at a figure of 150-175 rounds per minute for each barrel of the mounting.
