Dera David, thanks for sharing this photo with the corrected caption. In the description you mentioned that there are "several other photos from this attack", could you please point them out, as I wasn't able to find? Many thanks, and congratulations for the great work you are doing!

The Library of Congress has long captioned this photo as “A train of bombs drops from United States Army Air forces plane on territory in the Aleutians held by the Japanese. Our fighting forces harass the enemy at this important outpost daily.” The caption on this page initially reflected the Aleutian location until recently when a viewer, Giampaolo Nonnis from Italy, set us straight with the correct story. Since then I have found this photo in the USAAF files with National Archives and Records Administration Reference Number 342-FH-3A26993-24024AC, along with several other photos from this attack. USAAF caption information also confirms that these bombs were dropped from a B-17 Fortress based in North Africa (15th AF, 97th BG, 342nd BS at Chateau-dun-du-Rhumel Airfield, Algeria). The Trieste was sunk in this attack and another cruiser, Gorizia, was badly damaged.
