If you zoom in on the above picture you can see a portrait of the King on each of the tompions at the end of each of the gun barrels. The tompions kept spray and debris out of the barrels.

... and the face appears to be King George V, the ship’s namesake, rather than King George VI who was the reigning monarch when the photo was taken.
