This photo is of my grandfather's armoured car. My grandfather is the gunner in this photo in the forward car. The squad is incorrect in this photo. His squad was 2781

They had American markings probably cause they were attached to an American regiment. The same one that liberated Bergen Belsen concentration camp.

My father, Barclay (Barry)CLEMESHA
No 1758183 2806 squadron was in Eindhoven during the war when he met my mother. They married and went to live in England. Sadly he died at the age of 30. Over 50 years ago my mother moved back to the Netherlands with my two sisters and myself. She died some years ago aged 60. My question is, what did the 2086 squad. do during the war and how did they arrive in Eurpoe? I don't know anything about it and there is nobody close left to ask. Please help me.

The gunner in the forward car is Leslie Madge grandfather of Seane Madge & my father. I have a picture of my father sitting on this car (same #). to my understandings the 2 squadrons were combined when they were in the Netherlands.
Also I believe all Allied vehicles had the star on them to easily identify them. One of the jobs of the RAF Regiments was to secure air fields.

I can tell you what my grandfather's squad did during the war. I think most if not all of the RAF Regiment armoured car squadrons were doing similar tasks.
Their job was to punch through enemy lines bringing with them engineers to survey forward future airstrips as the allies advanced. They we're involved in many small battles. They didn't go to main land Europe until August 1944. They ended the war with guard duty within Germany until they were disbanded in 1946.

My granddad Eric Stuart Edwards, No. 1298162 2806 squadron met my grandmother Truus Schrameijer in Eindhoven during the war. They married and went to live in Chepstow, Wales but returned to Eindhoven in the sixties.
