My uncle, 2LtCharles Reynolds, was a B-25 pilot in this unit. He was MIA later on Nov. 27, 1943 and never recovered. Among his effects was a sheet of paper listing his missions that fall and on Oct. 16, 1943 the caption reads, "Wewak Mission". I know that Boram had an airfield that was part of the Wewak group. Therefore, I am assuming he very likely could have been part of the exact mission shown in this photo!

I knew Capt. Judd personally in his elder years, he was one of the finest gentlemen I have ever known. He did not consider himself a hero but when I saw the 2 Bronze Stars at his funeral,I knew better.

Caption is incorrect. These B-25Ds, which are assigned to the 498th Bomb Sqdn. - 345th Bomb Group - 5th USAAF, are attacking the heavy AA defenses at Boram, New Guinea on 16 October, 1943. The aircraft in this photo, nicknamed "RED WRATH" was well-known in the 345TH Bomb Group, also known as the "AIR APACHES" The buildings are not part of a village, but rather are structures related to the heavy AA site. The 43rd Bomb Group was a heavy bombardment group which operated B-17s and B-24s.
