I have a long time friend who fought in the Battle of the Bulge and many other of the campaigns.
Robert Kauffman has gone back several times. The village his unit liberated has a Hotel that will NOT allow him to pay for his stay. Because he was one of the Americans who freed their village he is always their guest.
He has written a book "The Replacement" it can be purchased through Amazon.
Robert came home in a FULL BODY CAST. He said he was afraid they would be sunk and like our friends in this photo his options were very limited.
