Lt Pattie was the Executive Officer of VC-95 and was given the largest share of the credit for sinking U-575 but he was by no means the only one who contributed. In the early morning, Fortress aircraft from RAF No. 220 Squadron dropped depth charges on U-575 and alerted the Bogue task group. Also responding to the radio reports was Canadian frigate HMCS Prince Rupert (an escort from a nearby convoy). Ships and aircraft from the Bogue task group attacked U-575 throughout the day and into the evening before finally sinking the U-Boat. 18 were killed and 37 were rescued.
