ww2dbaseThe Zhijiang Airfield (Postal Map romanization: Chihkiang) in Hunan Province, China, built in 1942, was the headquarters of the Chinese-American Composite Wing (Provisional), which flew P-40 Warhawk fighters. It also hosted US photographic reconnaissance and transport aircraft. The Americans departed the airfield in early Oct 1945 after the end of the war, and the facility was abandoned until Dec 2002, when communist Chinese authorities began renovating it for civilian use. Zhijiang Airport began operations in Sep 2004.
