ww2dbaseThe site of the future Reigaryo Airfield in Takao (now Kaohsiung), Taiwan was chosen in 1930, and the naval airfield was completed in 1933. A plan to expand the airfield over the land to the southeast was made, but on 21 Jun 1935, the Nippon Aluminum Company purchased the entire area from the Japanese Navy for the construction of industrial facilities. By the time Takao came within reach of US air power, the entire Takao Harbor area had become a vital industrial center, and Nippon Aluminum Company became a target for US air attacks, along with its industrial and military neighbors. After the war, the facilities were handed over to the newly formed Taiwan Aluminum Company, which remained in business until the 1980s.
