ww2dbaseThe civilian Nanzheng Airfield (Postal Map romanization: Nancheng) was completed by the Chinese government in Shaanxi Province, China in Jun 1937. A Japanese attack on the airfield in 1938 caused its closure until Mar 1939. After the United States entered WW2, Nanzheng Airfield became the base for aerial reconnaissance variants of US P-38 Lightning aircraft, and, starting in 1944, B-25 Mitchell bombers of the 3rd Bomb Group of the Chinese-American Composite Wing. The Americans departed the base in Sep 1945 when the war ended, and the airfield remained unused until 1974 when the communist Chinese government began operating it as the civilian Hanzhong Xiguan Airport.
