ww2dbaseThe site for Bluie East Two was evaluated by the US Navy in Sep 1941. It was located about 57 kilometers northeast of the village of Angmagssalik (now Tasiilaq) in eastern Greenland. Construction began in the autumn of 1942, and weather reporting began in Nov 1942. In 1943, a 5,000-foot runway began operations, launching mainly search and rescue flights. It was closed in late 1947. The Danish government used the base briefly during the Cold War to support the construction of early warning radar facilities in the region.
