ww2dbaseAnkang Airfield in Shaanxi Province, China was originally built by the Chinese Air Force in 1938. After the American entry into WW2 in Dec 1941, it became one of the US 14th Air Force bases. Between Apr and Aug 1945, several photographic reconnaissance missions were launched from Ankang to Japanese-held territory. After the end of the war, the Americans departed in early Oct 1945. Between 1964 and 1986, between 1995 and Jul 2001, and again between Apr 2006 and the present day, communist Chinese authorities operated the airfield for civilian flights under the name of Ankang Wulipu Airport.
