• While returning to San Pedro Bay, destroyer USS Shaw withstood an aerial special attack when a Japanese plane dove on the ship and crashed into the sea 25 yards off Shaw's port bow. • SS Antoine Saugrain was rendered dead in the water after being struck by two aerial torpedoes in Philippine waters. The ship claimed to have shot down several Japanese aircraft.
