• Italian submarine Comandante Faà Di Bruno attacked British ship Melrose Abbey 200 miles northwest of Ireland with her deck gun. As Canadian destroyer HMCS Ottawa and British destroyer HMS Harvester approached with guns firing, Comandante Faà Di Bruno dove under the surface. • The Greek 2nd Army Corps mounted another attack on the enveloped Italian Julia Division in the Pindus Mountains region in northern Greece. To the west, Italian forces at the Kalamas River continued their attempt to break out of the bridgehead. ww2dbase [Balkans Campaign | CPC]

• British freighter Melrose Abbey II of Allied Convoy HX 84 was pursued by a hostile submarine in the Atlantic Ocean starting around 0842 hours. At 1130 hours, British sloop HMS Deptford made ASDIC contact with a target and attacked it with depth charges; Canadian destroyers HMCS Skeena and HMCS St. Laurent later joined in; the target was not destroyed. At 1216 hours, Melrose Abbey II reported being pursued by a hostile submarine once again. At 1517 hours, Canadian destroyer HMCS Ottowa and British destroyer HMS Harvester hunted for the submarine, dropping a total of 88 depth charges through the night. • Three Canadian prisoners of war who had previously served in the British Royal Air Force arrived at the Oflag IV-C camp at the Colditz Castle.
