  • Japanese physicist Yoshio Nishina sought permission from the American occupation administration to use his two cyclotrons for biological and medical research. Dutch East Indies
  • Vice President Mohammad Hatta of Indonesia issued Proclamation X, changing the country from a presidential system to a parliamentary system. The proclamation established the Working Committee of the KNIP (Komite Nasional Indonesia Pusat, or Central National Committee of Indonesia) to fill the role of the nation's legislation branch of government until legislators could be elected. ww2dbase [CPC]

  • Korean nationalist leader Rhee Syngman, after decades of exile, returned to Korea via Douglas MacArthur's personal transport aircraft. ww2dbase [CPC]
