• In Tunisia, Lieutenant Wilwood Sandys-Clarke was left as the only officer still alive after his company was almost wiped out in a counter-attack. Despite head wounds, he rallied him men and captured three German strong-points before being cut down whilst single handedly tackling two sniper posts. He was posthumously awarded the Victoria Cross.
