Finally, a third attack wave with 21 B-24 bombers escorted by 28 fighters which targeted both Vunakanau Airfield and Tobera Airfield. - At the southern edge of the Taiwan Strait, submarine USS Spearfish intercepted a Japanese convoy consisting of one large troop transport, three medium-sized cargo ships, and three escorts. Spearfish fire four torpedoes at the troop transport with two hits. One of the torpedoes that missed went on and struck the cargo ship Tatsuwa Maru.
