


Tauran Incident

ww2dbaseThe village of Tauran in Mongolia Area, China was situated in a region disputed by the Mongolian separatists and the Japanese puppet nation of Manchukuo. On 11 Mar 1936, 128 men of the separatist Mongolian People's Army, accompanied by six Soviet advisors, marched into the village and drove out the small Manchukuoan force stationed there. Later on the same day, a larger force of 400 men, both Japanese and Manchukuoan, supported by 10 armored cars, returned and took back the village by force. The second engagement of the day saw the 56 deaths on the Mongolian side (including the commanding officer), 3 among the Soviet advisory staff, and 27 on the Japanese-Manchukuoan side.
ww2dbaseAfter the engagement, the Japanese-Manchukuoan troops buried the Mongolian dead in a unmarked mass grave. The grave was found in 2008.
