Fourth Moscow Conference
Contributor: C. Peter Chen
ww2dbaseCode named Tolstoy, Joseph Stalin and Winston Churchill met to decide a timetable for Russia to enter the war against Japan. Stalin, however, thought it was more important to settle the postwar balance of power in the Balkans. The two agreed that Russia will control 90% of Romania, 10% of Greece, 50% of Yugoslavia, 50% of Hungary, and 75% of Bulgaria. Churchill agreed to this division favoring Russia because of his interest in establishing Greece as a major British ally in the region.
ww2dbaseChurchill also raised the issue of postwar Poland. He suggested a meeting between the exiled Polish government based in London and the leaders in Moscow, but the proposal did not lead to an actual later meeting.

It meant the discharge of the Polish general Stanislaw Sosabowski of the 1st Independent Polish Parachute Brigade. That was a political manoeuvre.
