ww2dbaseThe Hs 126 reconnaissance aircraft were developed from Henschel's Hs 122 design. The pilots of the aircraft were seated in an enclosed cockpit, while the gunners sat behind the cockpit in open positions. Although the first prototype received terrible reviews, subsequent fixes made the production model popular. They were introduced in 1937, and were used in the Spanish Civil War in the following year. During the European War, they remained in German Army service despite the presence of several other more effective models, taking on additional roles such as glider tugs and night ground attack aircraft. Production ceased in 1942 and they were retired from service in 1942.
